Arsenal forward Campbell hoped to put Italy to the sword in the early kick-off

After his heroics against Uruguay in the first game, all eyes were on Joel Campbell and whether he could once again step up and deliver - this time against group favourites Italy, fresh from their 2-1 win over England.

After a fairly quiet first half, the Arsenal forward sprung into life just before the half-time whistle blew as he raced through into the Italian penalty area only for Giorgio Chiellini to bundle him to the floor and get away with what looked a stonewall spot-kick.

Campbell had a fairly quiet second half as Italy looked for a way back into the match and was eventually taken off after 74 minutes but he can be pleased with his day's work and can look forward to featuring in the second round after the 1-0 victory secured qualification.
