Former Chelsea no.2 Paul Clement has been identified as a leading candidate to replace Arsene Wenger when the Arsenal boss eventually decides to walk away from the Gunners.
The Frenchman has two-and-a-half years left to go on his current contract, but is being tipped to walk away at the end of the season should the Gunners end up trophyless and miss out on a top-four place.
Now The Sun are claiming Real Madrid’s assistant boss Clement is the shock name being considered by the Arsenal board to replace Wenger when he decides to go.
Clement, 42, has been Carlo Ancelotti’s right-hand man during the Italian’s successful spells at Stamford Bridge, Paris Saint Germain and Madrid, and is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in world football.
The Englishman has never held the top job at any club, but his pedigree working with some of the world’s top players during his time in France and Spain is likely to appeal to the Gunners.

Sunderland 0-2 Arsenal: Sanchez stars as Gunners triumph

Sunderland 0-2 Arsenal: Sanchez stars as Gunners triumph
The Chile international capitalised on two errors from the hosts to take his tally to five goals in eight Premier League appearances this season
Alexis Sanchez’s double handed Arsenal a 2-0 victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Arsene Wenger’s men have now recorded three wins in the Premier League this season and move into fifth place, eight points behind leaders Chelsea who travel to Manchester United on Sunday.

Sunderland headed into the fixture off the back of an 8-0 hammering at the hands of Southampton last Saturday and another two lapses in defence were responsible for their third league defeat of the campaign.

In the 30th minute, Wes Brown attempted to control a lofted ball forward from Per Mertesacker but his back-pass to Vito Mannone was under-hit and it allowed Alexis to steal in and easily finish.

The Chile international netted his second in injury time after Mannone failed to control Patrick van Aanholt's back-pass, which presented the Arsenal winger with an empty goal.

Arsene Wenger, without the suspended Jack Wilshere, made three changes, with Wojciech Szczesny returning in goal having been suspended in midweek and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mikel Arteta given starts.

That meant Emiliano Martinez and Aaron Ramsey had to settle for places on the bench, where they were joined by Theo Walcott - who was appearing for the first time having spent nine months on the sidelines with a cruciate injury.

Manchester United are confident of signing Gareth Bale from Real Madrid in January with talks set to begin over £90million deal.
Bale has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford in the last few weeks with rumours swirling that United want to sign him after Cristiano Ronaldo snubbed a return.
And according to reports in Spain, United are increasingly confident of bringing in Bale and are planning to start talks with Madrid in the coming weeks.
The fee for the Welshman would likely be about £90million – a new world record – but Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal has been given the green light to spend big again.
It’s not clear whether Bale would be interested in returning to England but United would offer him a giant contract plus lucrative bonuses to try and sway things

Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has dropped his wage demands to just £80,000-a-week in a bid to seal his proposed transfer to Arsenal.
Khedira’s agent has been in talks with Arsenal over a deal to join in the January transfer window, but the Gunners have been unable to finalise a fee with Madrid.
However, reports in Italy say the German is doing everything he can to make a transfer happen, and has now lowered his wage demands in a bid to push a deal through.
AC Milan, Manchester United and Chelsea have also made approaches for Khedira, but all recent suggestions are that he favours a switch to the Emirates Stadium

Bayer Leverkusen winger Karim Bellarabi looks set to be the subject of much attention when the transfer window opens in January, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all interested in a deal.
The Premier League trio, along with the likes of Tottenham and Newcastle, are keeping close tabs on the 24-year-old after an impressive start to the season with Leverkusen, according to the Mirror.
Bellarabi spent last season on loan with Braunschweig but has broken into Bayer’s first team this year, scoring four goals in 11 appearances.
His displays both domestically and in the Champions League have seen him earn his first international cap, playing the full 90 minutes of Germany’s 2-0 defeat to Poland two weeks ago, before also starting their 1-1 draw with Ireland.
